--Focus on performance-based training and associated biometric assessment to increase student proficiency-
Rotterdam, Netherlands, April 25, 2023 – Today, at the International Training Technology Exhibition and Conference, CAE and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) announced collaboration supporting performance-based training and biometric assessment for pilot training.
The cooperative efforts foster the design and development of next-generation pilot training programs as they move toward an automated, real- time, objective assessment of situational awareness for pilot training.
In the initial steps, NLR, a leading international research aerospace centre, will assess the results and applied methodology of a trial conducted by CAE for the Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF). NLR will evaluate the measured proficiency attributed to the use of biometric analysis and feedback in the trial. This assessment will inform future research efforts and help identify opportunities and potential improvements.
The trial released at the Military Flight Training Conference 2023 measured training efficacy and human performance of student pilots practicing take-off and landing maneuvers on CAE’s Trax Academy Sprint Virtual Reality Training Devices. The trial with 30 JASDF cadets leveraged Artificial Intelligence (AI) coaching and real-time feedback on maneuvers to demonstrate improved student proficiencies.
CAE and NLR will extend their collaboration in human behavior assessment and biometrics with potential cooperation regarding the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) replacement of the initial flying training capacity. CAE and NLR will evaluate the general viability of the cooperative effort to leverage their complementary skills in providing an optimal solution to the RNLAF's requirements.
