Ian Edwards joined CAE’s board in 2024. Mr. Edwards currently serves as President, Chief Executive Officer, and a director of AtkinsRéalis, a global engineering services and nuclear organization. Before being appointed to his current role in October 2019, Mr. Edwards was named Chief Operating Officer in January 2019, where he took the lead in executing the initiative to simplify, focus, and grow the business and implemented numerous measures to improve the operational performance of the company. Mr. Edwards joined AtkinsRéalis in 2014 and was later appointed President, Infrastructure in 2015. As President, Infrastructure, he led employees within AtkinsRéalis’ global Infrastructure business and oversaw the successful turnaround and transformation of the sector. Prior to joining AtkinsRéalis, he spent six years in senior roles with the Leighton Group, where as Managing Director, Leighton Asia, India and Offshore, he led a diverse business of 20,000 employees spanning the construction, infrastructure, oil and gas and mining sectors in 14 countries.
Experience, Qualifications, Attributes, and Skills
Mr. Edwards brings significant strategic management and leadership experience, gained as President and Chief Executive Officer of AtkinsRéalis, where he oversaw a repositioning of the company, including simplifying its operations and geographic spread, exiting business lines and evolving the company into a premier engineering services and nuclear company. Mr. Edwards also brings human resources and compensation expertise developed in his current role at AkinsRéalis, which entails oversight of the overall remuneration framework throughout the organization, as well as through his role as Chair of the HR Committee during his tenure on the board of Canada Steamship Lines. He also has deep sustainability expertise gained throughout his tenure at AtkinsRéalis, where sustainable projects drive over 50% of revenues and key pillars of growth are centered around energy transition. Mr. Edwards also brings extensive risk management experience obtained in his current role at AtkinsRéalis, where he oversaw a complete overhaul of the company’s risk management system, including implementing an ERM process, regular business and project reviews at the CEO level, and strong board oversight. Mr. Edwards holds Higher and Ordinary Certificates in Civil Engineering from Lancashire University in the United Kingdom. He is an incorporated Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
