CAE Healthcare and The Michener Institute officially open state-of-the-art healthcare simulation centre

Toronto, May 25, 2010
Corporate Healthcare Trade press release

CAE Healthcare and The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences formally celebrated the official opening of one of Canada's largest simulation centres. The CAE/Michener Centre for the Advancement of Simulation and Education (CASE) is one of the first in North America to specialize in providing interprofessional, simulation-based education for integrated healthcare teams, including health professionals.

The aviation simulation-based training model is becoming universally recognized as one of the most effective ways to prepare healthcare professionals to respond to critical situations, while reducing the overall risk to patients. Michener is collaborating with CAE Healthcare to draw on CAE's vast aviation simulation expertise and combine it with Michener's innovative curriculum.

"I am very pleased to celebrate the opening of the CAE/Michener Centre for the Advancement of Simulation and Education," announced Dr. Paul Gamble, President and CEO, The Michener Institute. "This state-of-the-art facility is designed to enhance the student experience by using interprofessional education and integrated simulated learning to better prepare our future healthcare providers to respond to patient care needs."

The CAE/Michener CASE offers two floors of simulation space totalling 20,000 square feet.  Located in The Michener Institute's facility in Toronto, it provides state-of-the art simulation studios and OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) suites that can support a variety of team-based healthcare simulation scenarios, such as pandemic planning, operating room and emergency room situations in both virtual and physical spaces. Applied health science , nursing and medical students will be able to simulate together in flexible spaces and teaching environments that will prepare them to work effectively together in integrated healthcare teams in the clinical environment.

"We are proud to partner with The Michener Institute to develop  cutting-edge simulation-based educational solutions together, which will leverage our expertise in team-based training and contribute to the ability of Michener graduates to improve the safety and efficiency of health systems, in Ontario, Canada and elsewhere," said Guillaume Hervé, President of CAE Healthcare. "By building on our respective strengths, we will play an important role in transforming the healthcare training environment."
