On the eve of the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) conference at Queen’s University Belfast in the United Kingdom, CAE Healthcare announced the release of CAE VïvoTM, a tablet-operated, facilitator-driven software that allows full control over METIman’s physiology and responses.

“Vïvo is an intuitive, easy-to-use and visually appealing program that allows instructors to instantly create a patient that meets learning objectives,” said Dr. Robert Amyot, President of CAE Healthcare. “We developed Vïvo for today’s healthcare learning environment, which is fast-paced, rapidly changing, and in need of compelling training solutions.”

CAE Healthcare has been known for the realism of its patient simulation line (HPS, iStan, METIman, PediaSIM, BabySIM), which incorporates validated models of human physiology. With Vïvo, CAE Healthcare becomes the only simulation company to offer a patient simulator that can alternate between physiological models and full manual control from session to session. Beginning this fall, every new METIman will include both Vïvo for facilitator control and the Müse software with model-driven physiology.

With Vïvo, facilitators have the freedom to create full simulation scenarios on the tablet and also to operate high-fidelity simulations on the fly. Vïvo’s integrated checklists allow instructors to quickly record when a learner performs patient safety protocols, like hand washing, or to make notations of their own in real-time. The software will initially be offered on a Nexus 9 tablet controlling METIman, and will later be available on more CAE Healthcare platforms.

METIman is CAE Healthcare’s most popular patient simulator, it can blink, breathe, bleed and mimic clinical experiences. The simulator operates wirelessly, and it can be placed outdoors for field training and assessment, transported in an ambulance and treated within a simulated clinical setting. Nursing schools, universities and hospitals around the world use METIman to simulate medical emergencies, practice high-acuity, low frequency patient encounters and improve team communication.
